“There’s No Place Like Home” Event

May 16, 2009
12:00 amto5:00 pm

his event is “A computer-repair event benefiting foster kids in Austin” by performing troubleshooting and maintenance functions of computers for those in need.

The organizer of this event, Carlo Cucina, is still in need of volunteers and believed the Computer Club of Austin would be a good source of folks with computer skills!

This is short notice, I know, but if you can help, please do.

Here is the recruiting email he sent me with the details

Hi Everyone,

A group of us are organizing a charity event for foster kids and we are looking for volunteers with technical skills as well as people interested in helping this cause. We don’t want your money – but we would love your skills and time!

What:
At our event we will troubleshoot, diagnose and, whenever possible, fix computers for a donation. 100% of donations will go towards the care of the foster kids at Giocosa Foundation. We will also teach classes.

Who:
We are looking for:
* Technicians that can troubleshoot/diagnose computers (Windows/Mac)
* People pretty familiar with working with these OS’s and can follow directions by a senior tech who will advise them
* People who can teach a class (Any basic topic) or answer audience questions
* People to help with general logistics of the event – checking people in, etc.
* People who will help us spread the word by sharing event info at their churches, kids’ schools, etc.

Why:
The lives of foster children can be greatly enhanced by cultural and recreational activities. Increased funding for these activities can make a real difference. Our event is going to raise funds for The Giocosa Foundation, which is a foster care agency offering a high level of support. With the economy slowing down, donations are slowing too, making it difficult to help as many kids as we would like. With your help we can make this a successful event with long lasting impact.

When:
May 16th, 8:00AM to 5:00PM – You can Volunteer as much or as little as you can

Where:
The event will take place at the East Austin YMCA, 5315 Ed Bluestein (Hwy 183), just north of Martin Luther King Blvd. (map)

If you are ever remotely interested and would like to learn more about this event, please email us NOW!

Please, forward this to anyone you think would be interested and share it with your church, school, Facebook, and the people in your life.

Thank you,
Carlo Cucina
