December 9, 2017
10:00 amto12:00 pm

Organize your Computer:
Do you have trouble finding files, folders, photos and documents on your computer? Come to this meeting and learn how to use Windows File Manager, aka Windows Explorer, to get them all organized. We’ll also show you how to organize the icons on your Windows Desktop so you can find them too. And we’ll show you other tricks of the trade to make your computer ops go faster, more efficiently and more safely. If time allows, we’ll discuss partitioning and other computer utility programs like Disk Cleanup, Disk Defragmenter, CCleaner, 7zip, Syncback, Task Manager, Spinrite, etc.

Internet SIG, Nov/Dec 2017, Looking It Up and Some Entertainment

September 2nd, 2017
December 2, 2017
10:15 amto12:15 pm

First, all of those 9 emails about the meeting tomorrow were not my doing… Yahoo’s system went kinda haywire!  But on a positive note, nobody can say “oh I forgot”… at least not without getting a “yeah, right”!

To start, we have a new convert to Gmail, so I anticipate a lively Q&A.

Besides for phone numbers, we used to also use phone books to look up people’s and business’ addresses.  In the virtual world, this is accomplished for domains (the .com, .net, erc) via the Domain Name System, or DNS for short.  We had some question about a new twist on the process that just became available, so we’ll look at the basics and the twist.

And… I realiy did sign up for the free trial of YouTube TV and have used it for a bit and will demo it and share my experience.

Speaking of sharing experiences, I don’t have the resources to try out all the other (cable tv) cord-cutting options, so if you have used another and would share that experience, that would be great.

All this and news, tips, and the funnies!

Beginners’ SIG, November 11, 2017, Quickie Backups

August 11th, 2017
November 11, 2017
10:00 amto12:00 pm

O

Quick File & Folder Backups to Thumb Drives
Imaging is the best way to comprehensively back up every file on your computer, including Windows, the application programs and your data. But making the backup image can take a half-hour or more which makes imaging inconvenient for very frequent backups. We’ll show you a quickie method to back up a few important files or folders to a thumb drive in a minute or less. This makes backing up convenient to do on a daily or even hourly basis. And it nicely complements regular imaging to give you thorough backup together with a very up-to-date backup of your most important data files.
