Internet SIG, December 2018, MeWe and the Edge Apps

September 15th, 2018
December 15, 2018
10:15 amto12:15 pm

The topic is TBA.

Please note on 3rd Saturday, this month only.

MeWe and the Edge Apps almost sounds like a bad horror movie title!  But… the only horror story around here is Google Plus going away… 4 months sooner than originally announce!  It now due to be “sunset” in April 2019.

MeWe has the posting/sharing of G+… and chat…. and a basic events calendar, so…. after this meeting, I plan to close both the G+ group and the Yahoo group!!!  If you want to be notified of the meetings and get the stories/links afterward, you need to be a member of the group there.  If you haven’t already joined, you can request to join by clicking here

The CCAustin web site will continue to be updated with meeting announcements, but still not the post-meeting stories/links nor does it have any notification feature (i.e. you have to browse it periodically).

So…. the primary focus of this meeting will be getting everyone familiar with how to use MeWe.  To coin a phrase that always confounds me “it’s the same, only different”!.  Think of it as a housewarming!

As for the “edge apps”, those are ones you can invoke from the edges of your phone!  It’s a handy way to do something almost immediately, rather than with several taps!  The first of the 2 of them is simpler and lets you tap anything on your screen using only your thumb while holding your phone with 1 hand.  It great for when your other hand has a cup of coffee in it!  The 2nd one lets you move around your favorite and most used apps quickly… .and return to them quickly too.

All this, news, tips, and the funnies..

Topics:  eBay and Craigs List:

Our guest speaker, Cathy Willmann will explain how to set up an eBay account and sell your stuff worldwide.  She is very experienced in doing exactly that for the Settlement Home, a local charity.

EBay is the preeminent, worldwide marketplace for individuals and small businesses. You can buy via an online auction or use eBay’s “buy it now” feature. Sellers appreciate eBay’s worldwide scope, its convenient Paypal transaction processing and the ability to sidestep the complex distribution channels used by “bricks and mortar” companies.

CraigsList is a free, web-based classified ad service catering to local cash sales. It works almost exactly like a classified newspaper ad. Your ad can even have pictures and there’s no cost involved. You can buy & sell stuff, promote a garage sale, find contractors and employers and even post “personals.”  It’s easy to use but you should take precautions; we’ll show you how.

Date & Time: This Saturday morning, November 10th, 10am to noon.

Internet SIG, October 2018, Where to Hang…

July 27th, 2018
October 27, 2018
10:15 amto12:15 pm

Decrepit items going away is a good thing.  Seemingly sturdy things going away is confusing.  Our old friend, Google+, has joined the latter status!  I’ve looked at some alternatives and think I’ve found a decent one.  Let’s look it over and see if y’all agree.

Are you satisfied with the camera app on your Android phone?  I wasn’t, but then the Essential phone has been knocked for its app for some time. There are a number of “ports” of the Google Camera app now that might improve you photos as much as mine have been.

In the news, there are a couple of cool announcements from airlines and a sneak peek at a phone you fold in half!

All this and the funnies….
