Linux Beginners SIG, March 2012, Lisa, Precise Pangolin

This month I have two Linux distributions to demonstrate/contrast. First is the KDE version of Mint 12 (aka Lisa), and the second is the first beta of what will become Ubuntu 12.04 next month, aka Precise Pangolin. (If you don’t know what kind of an animal a pangolin might be, it is the scaly anteater.)

12.04 is a LTS (long-term support) release of Ubuntu. In fact it is the first extra-long-term support release, since Canonical intends to support the desktop version for FIVE years instead of the normal three. (Other releases, like the current 11.10, are supported for 18 months on the desktop. Server LTS has always been for five years.)

Since Ubuntu and Mint are the #1 and #2 most popular distributions at the moment (in one order or another), come to the meeting and see the future. I”ll have CD/DVD installation disk handouts for both.
