Beginners’ SIG, May 9, 2020

May 9, 2020
10:00 amto12:00 pm

Topic: Spreadsheets for Calculations:  Spreadsheets make working with numbers as easy as word processors work with words. Spreadsheets provide the easiest and fastest way to tally up income tax deductibles, analyze mortgages, create financial statements, small mailing lists, bids, invoices, graphs and more. The spreadsheet is the famed “killer app” that, back in the 1980’s, turned obscure
“hobby” computers into ubiquitous “personal” computers and made the PC a must-have for almost everybody. Come to this meeting and find out why spreadsheets are so useful and what you’ve been missing. We’ll demonstrate Microsoft Excel and introduce you to free spreadsheet apps like Open Office, Libre Office and free online offering like Google Sheets.

Teleconference: We hope to meet at the Old Quarry library at 10am as usual but if it is still closed then we’ll meet via Zoom teleconference. To join the teleconference you MUST first contact the SIG leader by email or phone at the number listed on the “Beginners SIG Page.” (See the link below.) Then, one or two days before the meeting, you will receive an invitation email with a link to join the meeting. The usual “reminder” email will not contain this link. You must specifically ask the SIG leader for the “invitation” email. If you have not used Zoom teleconferencing yet then please contact the SIG leader several days beforehand for more information and, if desired, a practice session with Zoom teleconferencing. Once the SIG meeting begins it will be too late to work out any technical problems you may be having.

Breakfast: Our pre-meeting social breakfast will be from 9am-10am if both the library and a nearby restaurant are open. Check your reminder email for the location. If you’re not on the meeting reminder e-mailing list then contact the SIG leader at the number listed at the link below.

See the Beginners SIG page for location, contacts, etc.
